At the beginning of June, we welcomed an exceptional American kayak avid angler group. This trip was planned months ago with Doug Olander, chief editor at Sport Fishing magazine. He brought Jason Arnold, the famous photographer, Chris Russel from Eagle Claw, Brandon Cotton from Okuma, Keaton Eoff and Kevin Nakada from Hobie kayaks.
This expedition (half by road and half by panga) was done in the morning and in the early afternoon we reached this unique place were the camp had already been settled,
As soon as we arrived to our tuna spot, fishing went crazy! Tuna were hunting everywhere and in few minutes everybody got hooked and towed by a YFT!!! Jason Arnold, who stayed with me on the assistance panga, caught his first yellowfin between 2 shots. My best memory is when Kevin Nakada, from Hobie, hooked 1 tuna on his popper and couldn't stop himself and leaving his rod with the fish hooked in the rod holder, cast another popper with another rod and immediately caught another tuna.totally unreal.Kevin hooked 2 tunas at the same time!
The following 3 days were incredible, everybody caught many fishes, tunas, cuberas, roosters and amberjacks were taking poppers and live baits on the same spots. The highlight of the trip was when Keaton Eoff from Hobie kayaks, caught this huge cubera snapper, see the shot below.
Keaton caught a huge 80lbs+ rooster the last day, maybe the biggest pez gallo caught from a kayak ever. It was a nice way to say bye bye to the Tuna Coast... See you next year everybody!
